Were you born after 5 April 1960? The Pensions Act 2014 legislated a phased increase in State Pension Age (SPA) to 67 for men and women born after that date, beginning in April 2026 and ending two years later.

Life expectancy projections have shifted significantly since the Act was passed — ONS 2022-based projections for 67-year-olds in 2028 show 18.6 years for men and 21.1 years for women, compared to the 2012 projections of 21.3 and 23.8 years respectively.

One more reason for planning your own retirement date, rather than defaulting to the State’s choice.
